Picnic at the Planets celebrates final weekend in Cambridge for Our Place in Space

Hundreds gathered on Midsummer Common to wish the trail farewell with cosmic activities, music and more.

Rounding off four interstellar weeks in Cambridge, we curated an epic day of hands-on STEAM activities, live music and trail tours before we wished the planets well on their onward journey.

The day started with workshops from the CHaOS science team which saw budding space cadets build their own rockets, followed by tote bag designing with Nerve Centre and planet flag designing with SunSpaceArt!

Creative duo Hunt and Darton delivered two out-of-this world tours of the sculpture trail before hosting the Great Planetary Make-Off, with eager creatives battling it out to design a brand new planet.

The day was soundtracked by local Cambridge cover band the Lightwaves, who filled Midsummer Common with the sounds of classic rock legends such as David Bowie and Queen.

Take a look at the highlights of the day below.
