We’ve managed to shrink the solar system to fit into a 10km trail along Divis and the Black Mountain — a popular walking spot with panoramic views of Belfast and beyond, cared for by the National Trust. You can jog to Jupiter, visit Venus and sit by the Sun without ever leaving Earth.

About the Trail

The sculpture trail will animate this spectacular landscape of blanket bog and boardwalks from 11 June to 10 July 2022. Expect out-of-this-world views over the city and on a clear day you may even see some parts of Scotland and England.

The beginning of the trail is located around 800m from Divis and the Black Mountain car park. For directions to the car park, visit the National Trust's website here.

There are frequent bus and rail services available across Northern Ireland to get here by public transport - plan your journey on Translink's website with their Journey Planner, available here.

More details on an Our Place in Space shuttle bus service to the trail from Belfast City centre will be announced soon.

Opening hours

The trail is available to view every day and we would recommend visiting between 9am and 7pm. Look out for our Trail Guardians and Volunteers who will provide you with more information about Our Place in Space.

Trail Closure

Please note the Divis and Black Mountain site may need to close due to adverse weather conditions or emergency situations. Closure announcements will be posted on the Our Place in Space Facebook and on Divis and the Black Mountain | National Trust website.

Car Parking

Free parking is available at the upper and lower car park, however, spaces are limited. Mobility parking spaces are also available. Please respect local residents and emergency service access by parking in these areas only.

Schools and Group Parking

Please get in touch with our learning team who will help you arrange parking

The trail makes its way along heath, stone tracks and boardwalks. Visitors are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the mountain terrain.

Toilet facilities
are available in and around the cafe at the beginning of the trail.

Detailed trail maps will be available for free from our Trail Guardians and Volunteers at the beginning of the trail, highlighting relevant facilities along the route. Our Guardians and Volunteers are there to support you.

Download Trail App

Our augmented reality app will support your visit to the sculpture trail. Track your steps through the solar system, collect space souvenirs, upload a star to the 'Universe of Us' and learn all about the solar system during your visit — download the App via Apple and Google Playstore.

Please note that the app is currently in beta, which means that some functionality may not be quite ready yet! We will continue to update the app regularly, and recommend downloading the latest version.

COVID-19: Information for visitors

The sculpture trail is located in a public outdoor space. Visitors should adhere to the latest government guidelines surrounding COVID-19, available to view on NIDirect's website here.
